It’s December 1st, so you know what that means? It’s OFFICIALLY Christmas time!!! ::throws Christmas tree and snowflake confetti in the air::
This is my most favorite time of the year!!! I love the crisp in the air. The colorful jackets and scarves that we get to wear. The snow (although in Memphis, the Lord doesn’t like to release the snow when I want it, but He gives me a little sprinkle every now and again) I love the traditions. The family/friends/loved ones gatherings. I love the smiles that are passed by strangers on the street. It just makes me feel all warm and cozy on the inside.
I’m always on the look out for new and exciting things to do for Christmas. New holiday traditions to start because I’m a goofy cornball that’s why.
Every year, my wallet always takes a hit and I somehow always manage to end December on with my pockets hurting. This year, I’m taking back Christmas!!!
I’m still gonna be oozing holiday cheer, but coming up with more creative ways to do so with less strain on my pockets. Perhaps these are things that you may want to incorporate in your holiday festivities:
- Secret Santa
This year, instead of buying each person in our family a gift, which is about 10 people, we are doing a family gift exchange. We set a price limit and are going to buy for that one person. Everyone gets a gift, and it adds a little more excitement to the situation since we don’t know who has our names!
- Frugal Holiday Party
Last year, my husband and I hosted a small Christmas Extravaganza (How can “small” and “extravaganza” be in the same sentence you ask? It’s me. I do things like this.) And we will be doing one again. But instead of spending money on crazy concoctions and food experiments, thanks to Pinterest, I found some really cute holiday themed treats that are sure to be a hit!!! We will supply the food. Everyone pitches in and buys the liquor, and we will have a merry old time!!!
- 12 Days of Christmas
In an ideal world, I would love to give my husband 12 big priced gifts for everyday leading up to Christmas, but that’s just not in the budget. So instead of giving him things that he’s not gonna use, there will be a list of acts or small items that we will have to do in the name of each other. (If you are interested in the list, please let me know and I will share it)
- Adopting a Child
We are fortunate to have everything we need, and don’t want for much, but there are other people who are less fortunate. My friend and I have committed to sponsoring a child this year. It’s just a small way of sharing with what God has blessed us.
Me like cookies!!! On Christmas Eve, after we’ve finished the last wrapping of gifts and me cooking Christmas Day dinner, we end the night by making homemade cookies, drinking hot chocolate, and watching our favorite Christmas movies in cozy pjs. I’m usually the one who does all the cooking in the house, so this year, the Mister will be getting his hands dirty!!!
- The Real Christmas Story
One thing that I have done since I was little was read the true Christmas Story of the birth of Jesus before we start any gift opening. After all, He is the reason for the season!!! The greatest gift!!!
Tell me what are you alls favorite December holiday traditions. I would love to see what other things we can include in our festivities and maybe you guys can incorporate some things from us!!!
